Silchester Music Festival aims to provide both a platform and a showcase for young talent in Silchester and the surrouding area. We believe that music is something to do rather than something just to listen to and yet it is extraordinarily hard for a young band to find anywhere to play their music. Previous festivals proved that we have some exceptional talent in and around the village and we hope that we encouraged many people to pick up an instrument and have a go. This year's auditionees have also demonstrated some rich song-writing talents and a wider range of musical styles than previous years - so much so that we have included a special acoustic session in this year's line-up: SMF Unplugged!

The evening is a non-profit-making event. Bar and food takings are used to cover expenses and any money left over is donated to local causes and charities. As a condition of our license, we will be requiring proof of age at the bar for younger adults, so please bring some ID. Alcohol purchased elsewhere can not be brought onto the site for the same reason.

Most of the facilities for the evening have been donated free of charge, which has allowed us to run the whole evening with no admission charge. Many of our key supporters prefer to remain anonymous so we'll just say a huge thanks to all of you: we couldn't do it without you.
